Support for managing stress
What is stress?
Stress is a natural response to a difficult situation. Some levels of stress can be helpful as it can motivate us to take action and improve focus. It is driven by the stress hormone cortisol which triggers a fight or flight response. Too much stress can have an impact on our mental health and exacerbate anxiety and depression.
Signs and symptoms of stress
Stress can manifest by feeling overwhelmed and could lead to burnout. Stress can cause physical symptoms such as headaches and trouble sleeping. Some people experience increased heart rate and high blood pressure. If we don’t manage these symptoms it can have a significant impact on our day to day life.
How can counselling help?
Counselling can provide individuals with effective tools to manage stress by exploring the underlying causes of stress, identifying negative thought patterns, and developing coping strategies.
